It’s a new year and time for new projects. I am really pleased to tell you that I’m going to be running a small number of online masterclasses this year. I’ll share the details with you over here as I go.
The first is my Writing a Cookbook Masterclass. Writing cookbooks has been a dream of mine since childhood, and I could not be prouder to have made it happen. I didn’t have experience or contacts when I started, it was just me and my dreams and a determination to make out happen.
Those ‘pinch me’ moments, when you find your book in a bookshop, sign much used and loved copies from readers and the letters sent to you, telling you which recipes they and their families all love are simply magical and for those who may share this dream, I’ll be offering some tips and advice on some of the paths to consider.
My Masterclass will take place on 1 February at 7pm UK time. It will cover the following areas and tickets are available on Eventbrite, using this link.
- Planning a cookbook - your profile, what you'd like to cover, and analysing the market
- Planning your approach - using an agent/using a publisher/self-publishing - the pros and cons of each
- Putting together a proposal - some suggested formats for putting together a polished proposal
- Pitching your ideas - some ideas for how to do it and what to realistically expect
- Other ways of writing - newsletters and social media
- Achieving excellence in cookery book writing
- Writing as a career - the highs and lows
Many of these themes will overlap with anyone wanting to write a book, be it fiction or non fiction, and may be of interest to other people who would like to write for a career or realise a book to tie in with their brand.
