Perthshire is such a wonderful place to visit, and I’ve been lucky enough to have stayed in the area for a couple of gorgeous holidays and visit regularly from Edinburgh, too.
Here are some recommendations for places to eat, drink, shop and stay:
Casella & Polegato is a lovely artisanal baker in Perth. Stock up on quality genuine Italian baked goods. They also produce Mena bread (which is delicious) for anyone who might find it helpful, and which can be ordered for nationwide delivery through Mena Pause.
Aran bakery in Dunkeld is well-known, thanks to its owner, Flora Shedden. It’s worth a visit if you are in the town, which is very sweet and worth a visit.
I am particularly fond of the outstanding Wild Hearth bakery near Comrie. It’s really first rate.
The Crieff Food Company is an interesting and well-stocked deli. Great for food shopping for all occasions.
Grandtully Hotel is a great spot for a good meal, and is very convenient if you’re heading in that direction, as it’s on the main road.
Errichel is a nice family-owned cafe, restaurant and deli near Aberfeldy. It’s family owned, which really comes through in the warm, friendly service, and much of what they sell in the bistro and to take away is made in house, using their own meat. Their cheese selection excels and the shop is good for interesting store cupboard ingredients.
Loch Leven’s Larder is a really smart destination farm shop and cafe. They stock a very wide range of food products and have a very pleasant cafe. Try their nice teas, sold by the pot.
Clootie Mc Toot in Abernethy is a gorgeous spot. It’s a family run business (which also employs people in challenging circumstances from the local community, bravo), and they make and sell traditional, cloth steamed clootie dumplings. Visit for a lovely coffee to enjoy whilst watching the puddings being made, and stock up on some gorgeous treats from the sweet shop.
I adore staying at the very special Burmieston, near Logiealmond. It’s truly unique and so comfortable and luxurious. I also recommend Ballintaggart or Gleneagles for pure spoiling, if that’s what you’re after.
As ever, please do let me know if you visit any of these recommendations, and what you think. I always love to hear from you.
